I don’t know about you, but I’d take a Macintosh over a PC any day. Reason being the fact that Mac’s actually work and don’t really have problems, which doesn’t make me frustrated and uptight. Apple is a reliable company that really spends time and money making the best products out there. The only thing that might turn you off from getting a Mac is the price. The price might be a little steep compared to PC’s, but it is worth every penny to buy that Mac. The great thing about a Mac that PC people don’t know is that a Mac can run Windows like a PC. This means you pretty much have a 2 in 1 computer and that comes in handy. My previous experiences with PC’s have been dreadful. I had a Dell laptop and it was awful, the computer only lasted a few years which is nothing compared to a Mac. Anyways, the more you ended up using the Dell, the slower it became. I became so frustrated with the Dell that I literally was going to throw it across the room. Well, when I got a Mac, I smashed the dell to bits so I could take all that anger I had with that thing out of my body. Of course, Mac’s don’t get viruses like PC’s do so the Mac’s last longer and they stay just as fast as when you got it brand new.
In Conclusion, don’t go through the hassle and frustration of buying a PC and just get a Mac.

Hey, if it’s shiny, you’ll buy it, right?
Play any games lately?
Whether you run XP/Vista or OSX/Leopard, you’re just paying for a nice looking piece of garbage. A PC can do everything a Mac can, and more.
no one plays games on the computer anymore. In this generation people use gaming consoles. Only a fraction use it for gaming. Oh, and like i said, a Mac CAN run as a PC if you want it to and it CAN play PC games. So you cant really say it can do more if a Mac can be both, because your PC cannot be a Mac.
oh and if Mac’s are such “garbage” how do you explain they last longer then an average PC? yeah…didn’t think so.
They don’t, I constantly see Macs breaking because of how fragile they seem to be.
I own a PC that is around 8 years old, and it still works fine. If you aren’t an idiot, use common sense, and a decent firewall, you should never have your PC mess up, no matter what kind of porn or mysterious files you download from the internet.
well then dont drop it! That simple. Well at least i dont have to worry about keeping my computer virus free. It does that by itself
oh yeah, i have a Mac that is in complete black & white and it STILL works amazingly. 8 years doesn’t cut it.
Nobody makes viruses for Macs because nobody uses them.
No, nobody can make viruses for Mac’s because the code is more complex then a PC. I know loads of people that have Macs!
Admittedly, Macs aren’t horrible, but claiming that they’re far superior to PCs is ridiculous, they don’t even come with a right click function.
actually, they do. the mouse have both a left and right click button.
you just go to the settings and tada!
“Nobody makes viruses for Macs because nobody uses them.”
I LOVE when people use this reason for no viruses on the Mac, because it is flat out hilarious. You do realize that millions of people use Macs, correct? And if “nobody” uses them, then I guess I’m a nobody right now. I use my MacBook (2.4 ghz) for work, where I design websites and communication with clients, along with school, and occasional movie and photo editing. In addition, the iWork suite (which is the Mac-version of Microsoft Office) is incredible and I use it so much. I have used Keynote (PowerPoint for Mac) so many times during business meetings and I get lots and lots of compliments about how professional my presentations work. In addition, they are blown away at how beautiful my computer is, and how fast it works. Plus, my laptop actually has a useable trackpad (very large, and supports multi-touch up to 4 fingers). My clients have to bring a mouse because their trackpads are not useable.
“They don’t, I constantly see Macs breaking because of how fragile they seem to be.”
Hmmm I’m not sure where you got this argument from. I have the aluminum Macbook, and it’s stronger than any other laptop out there because of what it’s made out of. It’s the only laptop in the market that is made out of one solid block of aluminum that is lasered down to create the main frame of the laptop.
“Play any games lately?”
Yup. Lots of games for the Mac. And for the games that don’t have a Mac version, I just start up XP and play them. I can run XP and OSX side-by-side so I can continue to do other things while XP is running. (I can also run 3 operating systems at once, when I run OSX, XP, and Windows 7 at the same time). But then again, do I really need to play games on my computer? Nah. I don’t really have the time nor the desire to play video games anymore.
Hmm I think I’ve covered all of your arguments thus far.
jordan’s article may have been fairly biased and didn’t bring up many good points in the article, but I hope this discussion will bring up some better points.
haha well maybe I can help.
I work with Macs at school for journalism all the time. I use indeisgn there and all kinds of other things. I’ve used the PC simulator thing that lets me use windows too.
At home I have my dell laptop which i virtually live off of. I use it for gaming sometimes but mostly for the internets and writing my book
In comparison, it depends what you want to do. For the casual computer user, the PC is a better investment. If they want something simple to toy with that they won’t be too broken up about losing, they should go for the cheaper and IMO equally as effective PC. I know people get viruses but its really hard…I’ve been on computers for years and have never gotten one (nor heard about friends getting one. The heck are you people DOING on those things?! D: haha)
Macs are better for people who want to do more I think. They have all the neat little programs that you can do cool stuff with and are usful in many ways. But the down side is that they tend to be a bit more confusing. The only reason for that is that (because they’re cheaper) most people are raised on PCs. Librarys and schools do have some Macs but most are PCs. Either way, when a person learned how to use a computer, they learned a PC, and the subtle differences makes it hard to switch. Thats all.
I personally like PCs a little better. We have really new Macs at school and they run really slow so I don’t know if I trust that arguement. I’ve seen a mac laptop run pretty slow too. Yeah, my dell has been slowin down over the years but all I have to do to kick it back into gear is unplug and plug in the router. Simple as pie. Whatever that means anyways
Oh! I guess I missed that one.
” they don’t even come with a right click function.”
Uhh Macs have come with a right click function for the past 5 years. Even my trackpad has a right click function built into it.
thank you scott. haha
You can’t really customize with macs. A quality that is dissatisfying in my case. And I still haven’t encountered a mac that is fast enough for my speeds.
Customize?
And btw, Macs run Vista faster than a PC can….
there are so many third party apps out there for mac that you can customize so much to the point of disbelief. I have yet to encounter a PC that is faster and more efficient then my Mac
I didn’t mean apps. I was directing that mainly towards the internal parts of a computer.
well there usually isn’t a point of upgrading internal parts, other than the memory and hard drive which are easy to upgrade…?
there is really no need to upgrade Macs. they are fast when you get them and they stay that way so we never have to upgrade them like you might have to do.
thanks for.. repeating what i said, jordan. haha
at least i am making the point stick
i say until you have owned both, you dont really have much of a decent say because it would be too biased. i have owned both however.
does experiencing both count? :p
not really because it isnt yours to optimize and mess with to be your own. Using someone elses is not taking advantage of what the computer can help you with on a day to day basis.
Well that isn’t all you can do with customizing a PC. There is a LOT you can do. A lot more then a mac. I guess I support PC because I’m use to having liberty? With a mac it isn’t very up to date with games. Or up to date with most programs in that matter. Usually things come out for PC before mac anyways.
we have new programs (iLife) every single year and it is constantly updated year round. What can you customize on a PC that you cant on a Mac?
You don’t buy a Mac thinking about games. Computer games are dying out and you know it. More people use consoles then they do for gaming.
**more people use consoles then computers
(fix to last sentence)
You can update graphics manually. Even if systems are becoming more popular it doesn’t necessary mean they are better. On the computer you have the power to mod and have better graphics always.
Just out of curiosity. Can you use ROMs on a mac?
Actually avoid that question. It was a stupid one
like DVD ROM’s? if thats what you mean yes.
you can use parallels and run Windows so yes.
Mac screens generate HD quality. It is pretty much the sharpest computer screen i have ever used or seen.
For the thousandth time, we don’t need to upgrade stuff like you do. The more you use a PC the more you end up needing to upgrade it.
There is just nothing a PC can do that a Mac can’t.
No I did not mean a DVD ROM. I was talking about the kinda ROMs that have compressed data usually in a archive.
so what are you asking?
Now your just being plain childish. Both PC and Mac have things they can and can’t do.
I said ignore that question for a reason
no. thats where your wrong. A Mac can run as a PC. its pretty much a 2 in 1 computer if you want it to be. Your computer can’t be a Mac.
Macs can’t do everything a PC can. And I’m sure a PC can’t do everything a Mac can. To say that Mac is superior to PC is ignorant.
it might sound ignorant but it’s kinda true. Want can’t a Mac do that a PC can?
im just curious.
Well I’m not positive about this but I don’t think a Mac can have emulators.
The MACs at school are slow just because they’re hooked up to the school server which is shit slow whem multiple people are trying to work off of it and not their desktops.
if it is something you can run over on a PC, we can run it too.
thank you DAZZLESTARS!
people don’t see that its a server issue and instead they go for the computer.
That’s pretty obvious. I have a uncle obsessed with Macs so I have seen personally what they can do. I don’t hate them. I actually kinda like them. I’m only defending PC because I don’t agree with the trash talking.
and i respect that THINK.
PCs don’t need to be Macs
whats your point FRUIT?
Can Mac users commit cyber-terrorism? Not like its a good thing but it still relates to having freedom on a PC.
“and i respect that THINK.”
You obviously don’t, with all of your comments being absurd, and you constantly rambling on about how amazing your Mac is.
All you’ve been doing is insulting PCs without taking any of its pros into consideration, while we’ve sat here telling you that they’re both perfect computers and can do all of the things a computer can do.
what do you mean THINK?
Good point FRUIT
this is the whole point of the website FRUIT. to voice your own opinion. Its not like you havent insulted Macs….which you have. This is a friendly conversation, lets not think otherwise.
I mean, can Mac users hack into other peoples computers? Or steal information. Cool secret s**t
i dont know. I am sure. I am not a hacker so i don’t care for that subject really.
I am sure both can but in a different aspect.
My point is that we a PC doesn’t have to run an Apple OS because there are multiple programs, and even freeware programs, that are made for PCs that allow it to do everything a Mac can.
Unlike how you are flaunting the ability to run Vista or XP, when the only reason you should have to would be to play games and use Steam.
Also, it seems that most freeware programs are made specifically for PCs, and the Mac versions are constantly shunned and don’t get enough updates, leaving Mac users with an unfairly glitchy or problematic program.
How about file share illegally?
You dont have to run as a PC on a Mac either. its an option. Is there a PC program that acts like Spaces? (Mac program)
There are more reasons to run a PC on a Mac. Scott uses it when he is making a site to see if it looks correct off of a PC. Lots of other little things like that. I have a blackberry that only has a PC management program and not one for Mac so i use that too.
We have so many freeware programs that it’s not even funny. The list is seriously endless. We get updates all the time. Mac’s arent glitchy. like i said, they dont get viruses.
you can file share using a Mac in many many ways. I am sure someone has made something.
“this is the whole point of the website FRUIT. to voice your own opinion. Its not like you havent insulted Macs….which you have. This is a friendly conversation, lets not think otherwise.”
I understand that, but you’re being completely hard headed and then you say that you respect PCs.
And you’re absolutely right, I did insult Macs. But later I admitted that I don’t mind them at all.
Well I’m just curious to know whether you can torrent.
yeah, we have torrents.
Im just voicing my opinion FRUIT, don’t take it so seriously.
THINK, broseph, utorrent and bittorrent are available for Macs.
utorrent is stillin beta though
Ah I see.
This is all so very educational.
i use Vuze which is Azurus pretty much.
haha i didn’t relize that until now THINK.
haha
**realize
Well, I have worked with both Macs and PCs for most of my life, and I have a few things to say…
I personally like PCs because all of the computer functions aren’t coded in a strange non-direct dialect that just makes me wonder what this Macs are trying to get me to do…
While PC’s on the other hand are more concise and use a more…..”direct” method of telling you whats happening…
Internally, Macs are GENERALLY superior to the average PC, however, the choice of PCs is much higher and getting higher end models generally outshines the newer Mac models.
Graphically, Macs are yet again superior, OSX and whatnot is pretty and smooth, while Vista, XP, and the new Windows 7 are getting to that “level of smoothness” but are still sometimes blocky, but the graphics of your OS shouldn’t matter if you actually use your computer for things other than editing movies…..(lol jk)
The thing that I hate about Macs is the loss of a right click, I mean, why do you have to change settings or ctrl+click just to copy a piece of text?
Now, every Mac users’ argument is “Macs can run both windows and OSX and they has me some fancy programs!!!!”
well, sure Macs can do that, but really, who ACTUALLY USES both OSs? and in regards to the programs, windows doesn’t come with fancy-shmancy video editors like imovie, but the freeware and purchasable programs far exceed that of Macs.
One last thing, what is the deal with the filetypes of Macs? I mean, if you want to share a video with a friend, no .avi and other standard files rarely work! Why can’t Macs just leave music in .mp3 and movies in .avi?
XP was a great rival to Panther and perhaps even Tiger. But now that Vista is standard (which, might I add, is a complete copy of Tiger, only lamer), Leopard is completely owning all OS competition.
Why? First of all, it’s clean. VERY clean. Only real intense workers LIKE to have a cluttered desktop, and files that get lost EVERYWHERE. OSXL is clean cut, and– let’s face it– beautiful.
A PC lover will argue that Mac can’t play games well. Like Jordan said, no one plays games on PC anymore– console gaming is all the rage. Besides, Mac is becoming more compatible than ever.
And talk about virus protection– all these PC dudes are too busy creating viruses to “take down businesses” (to get the biggest body count they can), they completely forget about Macs. So, instead of “virus protection”, it’s more like “useless to create a virus for the Mac, so you’re essentially protected.”
Macs are 100% better. And, for my final argument– Vista? Really? Why would ANYONE prefer Vista?
“Internally, Macs are GENERALLY superior to the average PC”
This is true, but you can easily spend l000-2000 dollars and get a custom build PC that is extremely better than a Mac
“Graphically, Macs are yet again superior, OSX and whatnot is pretty and smooth, while Vista, XP, and the new Windows 7 are getting to that “level of smoothness”
Sorry but this is total bull crap, you can get easy to use skins that make your computer’s interface look like a Mac, or even better. There are also ObjectDock and RocketDock, if you want to replicate a Mac’s dock.
I don’t know about you, but when my computer is idle, all I see is my wallpaper and dock, it’s extremely sleek and hawt.
FRUIT is right. My crappy laptop could even look like the smoothness of a Mac if I really wanted it to.
bottom line:
Mac=working
PC=gaming
i like PC =P
PC’s are cheaper. I can buy a pair of them for the price of a Mac. That way even when my PC gets screwed up because PC’s are more vulnerable than your precious Mac. I have another one
.
James7154, PCs can and are used for work, especially in offices.
And as worlddominator said, Macs can be super expensive; the Mac Book Air, though it looks nice, costs 1800 or 2400 dollars, which is A LOT to pay considering it doesn’t come with an optical drive. You then have to buy the hundred dollar optical drive that hooks up by USB to the Air. And the laptop only has one USB port!
To MATH; I had mentioned this before, but if you go into the system prefs on the mac. The mighty mouse can be a left and a right but so it actually has a right button too…you just have to go to the settings is all.
OK. 76 comments is probably enough for saying the same things over and over (which I suppose I’m doing in this comment). Macs are worth every penny for how expensive they are. The cheapest they sell (as far as new laptops go) are the $999 basic white Macbooks. My sister just got one for her birthday and it works amazingly. Of course, the new 13-inch and 15-inch Macbooks are way cooler, especially because of how the trackpad works (check out apple.com for further details). Each of these are about $200-$400 more then the simple, white Macbooks, but are, again, worth it.
As far as viruses go, Macs really don’t get any. The same goes for pop-ups. Only very rarely with you find an advertisement come up while browsing the Internet. The overall look of the screen and windows is amazing, particularly comparing it to a PC. Everything is more “rounded” in a way and looks more…vibrant? I’m not sure what it is about Macs, but they look so much better than PC’s. They also run much longer than most PC’s. My Macbook has a battery life of about three and a half hours, and the new Macbook Pro has one of about EIGHT HOURS.
There are some flaws about Macs, though (as few as there may be). The main flaw is that some programs or games do not work on Macs. However, many companies now have programmed their products to work for both Macs and PC’s. It’s not so often that I have found something that doesn’t function on Macs. Another problem one may encounter with a Macbook in particular is how hot it gets. Although it does get pretty warm when it is running multiple applications, it doesn’t really do much to the computer or to the comfortability of using it. The last thing I can think of as far as problems go is that it is somewhat hard to open and navigate in multiple windows on one applications. This is specifically a problems with Pages, the iWork application similar to Microsoft Word. This is easy to get over, though, especially because it is never really necessary to open more than one window on an app (there are tabs on Safari that can be opened by a quick, two-button command).
Overall, Macs are awesome. PC’s are good for the time being, but in the long run, any purchase of a Mac is a much better choice than a PC (they are also very dependable, and last for many years).
Hmm I have the aluminum Macbook and I never encounter overheating problems.
Also, exposé, an application included on all Macs, let’s you see all open windows at the same time. That solves the problem of handling multiple open windows. With my trackpad, all I have to do is move my four fingers down and then I see a live version of each and every open window.
why stop keeping the convo going IRON MAN? It’s a hot topic. Haha
Oh and expose is really amazing, helpful, and useful.
scott, you need to have multiple pages for these things, have like a 10 reply limit, because this can get quite…out of hand.
and btw, upper-right hand x for the win =P
and your aluminum macbook would have overheating problems if you didn’t have a fan to cool it down. so you can’t just be like “well i don’t have a problem” you assumed a problem and fixed it.
nope, you’re incorrect. i have the fan to make it not hot at all. without the fan, it gets somewhat hot, but doesn’t overheat like some laptops do (and they have to be shut off to avoid ruining the circuit board)
I tried making it so the comments go into different pages but it’s not working.
Okay now they’re in their own pages.
and now you need to make it so the bottom doesn’t have both “submit comment” and “add comment” lol
fixed that too
Anyways, back onto the subject..
Haha
Hmmmmm…. why don’t we all agree that computers are essentially the same on the inside, while the OS simply depends on the preference of the user?
i think depending on what kinda person you are depends on which you would get. gaming more on PC. creative more on Mac.
So while we’re talking about operating systems, is Linux any good?
depends on your needs.
Well, I heard it was good for customization and looks. True?
i dont even know what a linux computer looks like. haha
It’s an OS, not a computer lol
By customization, I heard that you can really change how everything looks easily, and make it look great. Which I’m all about, haha
i dont like the interface.
idk why but it’s just not my thing.
i have yet to meet anyone who owns a linux.
wonder if i ever will for that matter?
haha
I like how every post you put “haha” at the end.
someone pays alot of attention
100 comments!
had to do it
Good job with that! Now how about researching about Linuxs, eh jordan?
im not a fan of linux.
dont know why.
mabe cuz its stupid
by the way kudos on the story jordan
thanks dude
